This directly cuts maintenance material costs and reduces the workload associated with oil top-ups, reinforcing its reputation for economic marine power.

Core Technology 3: High-Strength Reinforced Engine Block Design to Minimise Internal Mechanical Losses

Mechanical friction within the engine itself also wastes power unnecessarily. The Yuchai YC6K series features a reinforced structural design for its core components to handle high power density—and this design brings the added benefit of reduced friction, further supporting its fuel-saving credentials.

The engine block and cylinder head are made of high-strength alloy cast iron, which offers superior tensile strength and wear resistance compared with ordinary cast iron. Under long-term high-load operation, it experiences minimal deformation, maintaining the roundness and sealing performance of the cylinders more effectively—key to sustaining low fuel consumption.

For structural reinforcement, the engine uses an integrated forged steel crankshaft with exceptional rigidity. This design minimises deformation and vibration during high-speed operation, ensuring that critical friction pairs such as bearings operate with optimal clearances.

The combination of a more robust engine block structure and tighter precision clearances works together to lower the engine’s internal mechanical friction losses. Yuchai’s engineering analysis shows that this reinforced design reduces mechanical friction power loss by approximately 10% compared with standard cast iron engine blocks. The saved power directly increases the engine’s effective output, indirectly reducing the amount of fuel required to overcome the same resistance—another layer of Yuchai YC6K fuel-saving technology.
